Shamima Begum’s appeal against the revocation of her British citizenship due to concerns about her being a potential danger to national security has been dismissed.
In the court which operates with some degree of secrecy, Mr. Justice Jay announced that Shamima Begum’s appeal had been completely rejected.
As a result of the ruling, the 23-year-old woman is still prohibited from coming back to the UK and remains stranded in a camp located in northern Syria.
In 2015, when she joined the self-proclaimed Islamic State group, Shamima Begum was just 15 years old.
After getting married to a member of the extremist organization, she gave birth to three children, all of whom have passed away.
Back in 2019, the Home Secretary at that time, Sajid Javid, revoked her British citizenship, which not only blocked her return to the country but also led to her confinement in a camp for supporting the Islamic State.
According to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission, the decision to withdraw Shamima Begum’s citizenship based on the advice of national security experts who considered her to be a threat to the country was deemed legitimate.
