On Sunday, Ryan Gosling attended the 2024 Critics’ Choice Awards where he got a nomination for the song “I’m Just Ken” from the Barbie movie, in the Best Song category. To everyone’s surprise, including Gosling’s, he won the award. The moment he found out, his confused expression became an instant internet meme, as often happens when celebrities make funny faces on camera.

When presenters Bella Ramsey and Anthony Ramos announced the winner, Gosling raised his eyebrows and looked around, giving the entire room a bit of a side-eye. Although the award technically belonged to writers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, Gosling stood up to applaud, still in disbelief.

During Ronson’s acceptance speech, he made sure to acknowledge Gosling, saying, “Ryan Gosling, this is as much your award as ours. You made the audience fall in love with this song with your matchless performance, so thank you.” Ronson also thanked director Greta Gerwig, who was sitting at the same table as Gosling, expressing gratitude for carving out time for the unconventional 11-minute song.
Fans had a field day with Gosling’s gif-worthy expressions, drawing comparisons and making jokes about what might have been going through his mind when his song won.

The nominated song, “I’m Just Ken,” faced tough competition from two other tracks on the Barbie soundtrack, Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” and Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” Other contenders included The Super Mario Bros. Movie song “Peaches,” Lenny Kravitz’s “Road to Freedom” from Rustin, and Julia Michaels’ “This Wish” from Disney’s Wish.
