He’s keeping the audience engaged and curious.
Mike White, the creator of the popular HBO series “White Lotus,” expressed his openness to the idea of an “all-stars” season, where characters from different seasons would come together.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, White mentioned that while it would be easy to make the show a complete anthology, he finds it more enjoyable to have subtle connections throughout the series. He sees the show transitioning from a “limited series” to a drama, and if it continues for multiple seasons, he thinks it would be exciting to have an all-star season.
However, White emphasized that he doesn’t want to restrict himself to a single type of storyline, as the show has the potential to explore various directions.
“We have numerous ways in mind to reinvent the show each year,” he explained to the outlet.
“What exactly is this show, if not just a collection of people? It’s a refreshing mystery, which is something people might expect. However, I don’t feel limited by those expectations. It’s a fun experience.”
HBO premiered the first season of “White Lotus” in July 2021, and it received a significant response from fans, attracting an audience of 1.9 million across various platforms for its finale, as reported by Variety. The series features acclaimed actors such as Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, and Lukas Gage, and each season takes place in different locations. Coolidge’s exceptional performance as the iconic character Tanya even earned her an Emmy Award in 2022 for her work in season 1.
The inaugural season took place in Hawaii and followed various characters and staff members as they spent a week at the fictional White Lotus resort chain, culminating in an unexpected conclusion.
According to the show’s description, as each day unfolds, darker dynamics come to light, gradually exposing the intricate realities behind the seemingly flawless vacationers, cheerful hotel staff, and picturesque setting.
In October 2022, the second season premiered and shifted its location to Sicily, Italy, introducing a mix of fresh and familiar characters.
According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, there have been rumors that the filming of the third season of White Lotus was planned for Thailand. However, due to the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America, the production is currently on hold.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly last year, Coolidge openly shared that she was able to infuse elements of her own personality into her portrayal of the character in White Lotus.
Coolidge and the show’s creator have been friends since they first met on the set of “Gentlemen Broncos” in 2009.
