Roku has added 14 new channels to its streaming service, featuring TV shows and movies from Warner Bros.’s library. The channels are free and ad-supported, bringing Roku’s total selection to over 450. Many popular titles, including “Westworld” and “Raised by Wolves,”. Which were recently removed from HBO Max, are now available on the new channels. Other shows like “The Bachelor,” “Cake Boss,” and “Say Yes to the Dress” are also included.
Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Discovery made a deal to license 2,000 hours of content to Roku and Tubi, marking a significant shift for the company. Which previously kept its content exclusive to HBO Max. The new channels come as Warner Bros.’s upcoming combined streaming service, HBO Max/Discovery+, is expected to launch this spring. The service will roll out in the United States first, then in Latin America, and finally in Europe in 2024. The company has yet to announce the price or the name of the service, but it will offer an ad-free and ad-lite plan.
The addition of the new channels is a significant boon for Roku, as it continues to expand its streaming selection. It’s also good news for fans of the canceled HBO shows, who can now enjoy them on Roku. Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision to license its content to third parties is a significant shift in strategy, and it will be interesting to see how this affects the upcoming streaming service’s success.
