Jinkx Monsoon, who won the fifth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and the seventh season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” has been announced as the latest addition to the cast of the popular British sci-fi series “Doctor Who.” Showrunner Russell T Davies praised Monsoon as “the biggest star of all” and promised that the show will never be the same again. Monsoon expressed her excitement and said she is looking forward to working with Davies and the crew.
Monsoon is currently enjoying a successful run on Broadway, where she portrays Matron “Mama” Morton in the musical “Chicago.” She also appears in the original series “Sketchy Queens” on WOW Presents Plus. The new season of “Doctor Who” will air in November 2023 and will feature three special episodes with David Tennant returning as the 14th Doctor to coincide with the show’s 60th anniversary.
The BBC recently confirmed that Tennant and Catherine Tate will reprise their roles in the anniversary special. Ncuti Gatwa, known for his role in “Sex Education,” will take over as the next Doctor after Tennant, and his first episode will air during the festive period. “Doctor Who” has been on the air since 1963 and follows the adventures of the Time Lord known as The Doctor, who travels through time and space in a time-traveling spaceship called the TARDIS.
In addition, it was announced that “Doctor Who” will be exclusively available on Disney+ outside of the U.K. and Ireland, following a deal between the BBC and Disney Branded Television. Domestically, the show will remain on the BBC.
