Both Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio have confirmed their return to play their roles from the Netflix rendition of the series Daredevil: Born Again.
The forthcoming series, “Born Again,” will feature Jon Bernthal alongside Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, with production set to start in New York this month. Unlike other Marvel shows with shorter seasons, “Born Again” is set to be a massive 18-episode saga. The show’s creators and executive producers, Matt Corman and Chris Ord are leading the charge, and it is slated to release in the spring of 2024.
The title “Born Again” is taken from a famous Daredevil storyline by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, published in 1986. While the show deviates from the comic book plot, it still centers around the conflict between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin. Jon Bernthal, who first played his character on Netflix’s Daredevil in 2016, will reprise his role as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, in the upcoming series. The show will consist of 18 episodes, which is longer than other Marvel series that typically have six or nine episodes per season.
The Netflix era of Marvel television produced several popular shows, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Punisher, which were all canceled before the launch of Disney+. However, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, confirmed that the Netflix characters are still in play. Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Jon Bernthal are all returning to play their characters, but Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, who played supporting characters Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively, are not expected to return.
Bernthal hopes to maintain the same level of darkness that was present in the Netflix portrayal of the Punisher. He believes that any deviation from the character’s true nature would be a disservice to the character and its fans. In addition to his Marvel role, Bernthal has appeared in other popular shows and movies, such as The Walking Dead, King Richard, and The Many Saints of Newark.
