In her upcoming memoir, “The Woman in Me,” Britney Spears reflects on the infamous 2007 incident where she shaved her head. The pop star, who recently regained her legal rights in November 2021, reveals that the head-shaving act was a way for her to assert control after a lifetime of being scrutinized for her appearance.
Growing up, Spears faced constant scrutiny about her body, and the head-shaving moment was her way of pushing back against the intense public gaze. At the time, she was navigating a difficult divorce from Kevin Federline, along with a custody battle for their two sons.
The memoir also sheds light on the aftermath of the head-shaving incident. Tattoo artist Emily Wynne-Hughes, who saw Spears shortly after the act, described the surreal moment when a hooded Spears entered with her hair completely gone. Spears explained that she was tired of people touching her hair and wanted to reclaim control over her personal space.
In another part of the memoir, Spears discusses the controversial conservatorship that she was placed under, stating that it robbed her of her womanhood. The conservatorship, which lasted for 13 years, was finally terminated in 2021, marking a significant moment of freedom for the pop icon.
