Over the next 6 to 7 years, he continued to amass machines for printing counterfeit stamp papers, which were bought by various parties including individuals, banks, brokerages, and insurance companies.
In 2001, Abdul was arrested and later sentenced to 30 years in prison. In 2002, he tested positive for HIV. Eventually, in 2013, he was convicted of selling fake stamp papers amounting to Rs 17 lakhs.
Abdul Telgi passed away due to multiple organ failure in Bengaluru on October 23, 2017. Interestingly, he was posthumously acquitted by the Nashik sessions court a year after his death due to insufficient evidence.
