According to Deadline, Netflix has finally announced the long-awaited second season of the highly acclaimed comedy-horror series ‘Wednesday,’ putting an end to the speculations and delays surrounding its potential cancellation.
The show, which features Jenna Ortega in the lead role, was previously rumored to be in jeopardy due to conflicts arising from changes in its ownership. Originally produced by MGM, the series became part of Amazon’s portfolio after their merger in March 2022, as reported by Forbes. Despite concerns that Amazon, Netflix’s biggest competitor, would prevent the show from continuing on the streaming platform, it seems that is not the case.
The immense success of Wednesday is believed to be the primary factor that convinced all parties to reach an agreement, even though the situation may seem unusual.
Netflix took to Twitter to announce that the spinoff series of The Addams Family, titled Wednesday, has surpassed the viewership of Stranger Things’ fourth season just one week after its release on the platform. According to the tweet, Wednesday garnered a remarkable 341.23 million hours of viewership within its first week, setting a new record for the highest number of hours watched for an English-language series on Netflix.
The tweet proudly stated, “With 341.2 million hours, Wednesday now holds the record for the most viewed series in a week on Netflix!”

Netflix has shared that Tim Burton’s directorial venture, Wednesday, is not only dominating viewership on the platform but is also leading in a total of 83 countries. In its first week, Wednesday garnered 335.01 million hours of viewership, surpassing the fourth season of Stranger Things.
Wednesday offers a fresh interpretation of the iconic comic strip The Addams Family, originally created by Charles Addams, which inspired a sitcom in the 1960s and a motion picture in the 1990s. The highly acclaimed series revolves around the young goth character Wednesday Addams, portrayed by Ortega, as she enrolls in Nevermore Academy to enhance her psychic abilities and uncover a two-decade-old crime.
Alongside Ortega, the show features a talented cast including Christina Ricci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Gwendoline Christie, and Emma Myers in significant roles.
During an interview with Tudum, co-showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough expressed their excitement for another season, stating, “We can’t wait to fully immerse ourselves in another season and explore the eccentric and eerie world of Nevermore. We just have to make sure Wednesday hasn’t drained the swimming pool first,” they added humorously.
