Succession, the popular drama series on HBO, achieved another milestone with its fourth episode of the final season reaching a series-high audience of 2.6 million people tuning in across HBO Max and linear telecasts on Sunday. This marks the third time the show has drawn a record audience this season. The viewing figures for Season 4’s debut have now tallied nearly 8 million viewers, according to HBO. The show’s second episode was the only one so far to not increase its viewership week-over-week, with about 2 million people watching the same day.
The Season 4 premiere of Succession has been a huge success, with 62% more viewers than Season 3’s premiere viewership of 1.4 million in October 2021. This marked the best premiere night performance of any HBO original series since HBO Max launched in May 2020. Succession’s audience also helped bring in a solid audience for the debut of Barry’s final season, with the first episode securing about 710,000 viewers across HBO Max and linear telecasts.
In the third season, viewership metrics for Succession weren’t readily available as the linear viewership declined sharply since viewers had access to the episode at the same time on streaming. The show has won 13 Emmys including Best Drama Series wins for its Season 2 and Season 3.
Succession’s storyline picks up as the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson looms, provoking existential angst and familial division among the Roy family. The show is created and executive produced by Jesse Armstrong, and other executive producers include Adam McKay, Frank Rich, and Will Ferrell.
In Season 4 of Barry, Cousineau is hailed as a hero as Barry’s arrest has shocking consequences. The cast also includes Stephen Root, Michael Irby, and Sarah Goldberg. The show has received 44 Emmy nominations and nine wins for its first three seasons. New episodes of Succession and Barry debut on Sundays on HBO and HBO Max.
