Theo Rossi, who is best known for his work in Sons of Anarchy, Marvel’s Luke Cage and Army of the Dead, has been selected for a prominent recurring role in the upcoming HBO Max original series The Penguin, which is being produced by Warner Bros Television and DC Studios. The eight-part drama follows the Batman crime saga, with Colin Farrell reprising his role from The Batman as the main character. Meanwhile, Cristin Milioti has been cast as Sofia Falcone, the female lead in the show. Rhenzy Feliz also features in the series. However, no details about Rossi’s character have been disclosed yet.
Executive produced by Matt Reeves, who began the Batman crime saga with Warner Bros Pictures’ The Batman, The Penguin is produced by Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros Television, where Reeves and 6th & Idaho have an overall deal. Lauren LeFranc writes and serves as showrunner for the series, while Craig Zobel directs the first three episodes. The Penguin is based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, and is being produced by Bill Carraro. In addition, Daniel Pipski of 6th & Idaho serves as executive producer, and Rafi Crohn is the co-executive producer.
Rossi’s most recent project is Emily the Criminal, in which he starred opposite Aubrey Plaza, written and directed by John Patton Ford, and for which he received an Independent Spirit award nomination. Apart from Carry On, the Jaume Collet-Serra-directed thriller for Netflix and Amblin, which also stars Jason Bateman, Taron Egerton, and Sofia Carson, Rossi has several other projects in the works. He is represented by Paradigm, Entertainment 360, and Schreck Rose Dapello.
